چکیده

Aim To explore the current literature on prenatal inflammation-associated risk factors for retinopathy of prematurity (ROP). Methods Subjective summary selected experimental and epidemiological publications that support authors’ central hypothesis aetiology ROP begins before birth. Results Based evidence we suggest that, contrary to aetiological models, process development with a prephase in utero. This beginning is likely initiated by inflammatory responses are associated intrauterine infection. Conclusion We propose novel aetio-pathogenetic model effects postnatal exposure stressors (resulting from infection or hyperoxia both) as well those other pre- contributors complex pathogenesis might be modified phase disease.

Retinopathy of prematurity: lack of association with prenatal care.

OBJECTIVES The overall goal of this study was to prospectively assess risk factors for retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) in infants of birth weight <1250 g in an urban population at Bellevue Hospital Center, New York, New York. The hypothesis tested was that lack of prenatal care increases the incidence of ROP. METHODS A consecutive sample of patients admitted to Bellevue Hospital Center's neo...

The retinopathy of prematurity.

When the condition of retrolental fibroplasia was first described by Terry (1942) in the United States of America it was then only recognized in the advanced state of a cicatricial mass or membrane behind the lens. It is now appreciated, however, that the earliest pathological changes occur in the nerve fibre layer of the retina, which first of all becomes thickened as a result of oedema, trans...

Retinopathy of Prematurity

The incidence of ROP varies with birth weight but it has been reported to be approximately 50-70% in infants whose weight is less than 1250g at birth. The more premature the infant, the more likely ROP is to develop [1]. Furthermore, an observational study from United Kingdom found that the birth weight of infants from highly developed countries was 737-763g compared with 903-1527g in less-deve...
